James Stewart was unique, from his distinct drawl to his down-to-earth persona. He was a star of films and stage, and often portrayed the average American man with everyday problems. He was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning for The Philadelphia Story, and received an Honorary Oscar in 1985 celebrating his 50 years of memorable film performances. Stewart held the highest active military rank of any actor in history; he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, and continued in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, ultimately becoming a brigadier general. His films still bring enormous pleasure to audiences and this look at his life and career should do the same.
